Recently, the Florida Legislature convened for a Special Session related to property insurance.  Despite her freshman legislator status, Rep. Hillary Cassel, considered to be a leading expert in the field, was tasked by the Democratic Caucus to lead the way through the Special Session.  This was Rep. Cassel's first official involvement as a member of the Florida House of Representatives.  Despite this, Rep. Cassel presented herself with the confidence and poise of a trial attorney with 16 years of experience.
Rep. Cassel was chosen to be an Ex Officio Voting Member of both the Ways & Means and Commerce Committees during the Special Session allowing questioning of the bill sponsors throughout the process.  Below you will find videos highlighting Rep. Cassel's involvement during the Special Session.
1. House Commerce Committee (12/13/22) - Rep. Cassel's closing starts at 2:52:04.
2. House General Session (12/14/22) - Rep. Cassel's closing starts at 3:10:22
During the Special Session, the Republican Caucus effectuated wide-reaching reforms aimed at gutting consumer protections to the sole benefit of insurance carriers.  A formal in-depth analysis of all of the changes with be forthcoming.
